MSOC: Edmonton Midfielder Javier Socorro Fox Commits to UNBC

The UNBC Timberwolves Men's Soccer program has added another exciting piece to its 2026 recruiting class, announcing the commitment of Edmonton midfielder Javier Socorro Fox.

A technically gifted central midfielder, Socorro Fox joins the Timberwolves from Next Step Soccer and Louis St. Laurent High School, bringing a strong understanding of the game, leadership qualities, and an impressive academic background.

"Javi is a very cerebral and technical midfield player," said Steve Simonson. "He has a great understanding of the game, good vision and awareness and a calmness that will help players around him. As he adjusts to the U SPORTS game, we believe he can become a very good midfield player at this level. We welcome Javi to the Timberwolves family."

Socorro Fox says the supportive atmosphere during his visit to UNBC in late March helped solidify his decision to commit to the Green and Gold.

"What impressed me most was the welcoming environment and the attitude of the players," shared Socorro Fox whose teammate and friend Nick Couchman announced his commitment to UNBC earlie"The campus felt close-knit, supportive, and focused, and the facilities were excellent. I appreciated how comfortable and welcomed I felt throughout my visit."

On the pitch, Socorro Fox takes pride in his ability to control the tempo and contribute in all phases of play. During his most recent season with Southwest United, he scored four goals.
Off the field, he plans to study Finance at UNBC.

"My goal is to become a competent and disciplined individual who can make a positive impact both professionally and in my community," added Socorro Fox.

A strong student-athlete, Socorro Fox has earned multiple academic and athletic honours throughout his high school career, including Honour Roll recognition, a Recognition of Excellence in French 10 Award, Team MVP honours in Grade 9, and Most Improved Player recognition with the Louis St. Laurent Soccer Academy in Grade 11.

For Socorro Fox, soccer has become much more than just a sport.

"My love for soccer truly grew during the 2014 FIFA World Cup," he said. "Watching the passion, teamwork, and joy players showed on the field inspired me deeply and made me fall in love with the game. Soccer has allowed me to build meaningful friendships, meet new people, and challenge myself to raise my level so I can make those around me better as well."

UNBC Athletics is proud to welcome Javier Socorro Fox to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
