MSOC: Victoria Goalkeeper Callum Cuthbert Commits to Green and Gold

The UNBC Timberwolves have added another talented goalkeeper to the fold ahead of the 2026 season. UNBC Men's Soccer head coach Steve Simonson announced today that 2007-born goalkeeper Callum Cuthbert (Victoria, B.C.) has committed to UNBC for the 2026 Canada West season and beyond.

Cuthbert, 18, is a graduate of Oak Bay Secondary, and is coming off a solid season of club soccer with Bays United FC (VISL Div. 1). In 2025 Cuthbert helped his team capture the George Smith U21 Cup, and VISL Team of the Season honours. Individually he was named Player of the Month for February 2025. In 2024 he captured a U18 Coastal Cup championship and finished second in the BC Soccer U-18 A Cup championship.

During a recent visit to UNBC, Cuthbert saw all that he needed to see.

"What really impressed me was the team culture, training environment, and campus," reflected Cuthbert who checks in at 6'2." "I know a lot of players from Victoria and Vancouver Island who have come to UNBC and really enjoyed their time. They say great things about the program, the coaches and team."

"I was really impressed with how Steve creates an encouraging environment, always checking in, being supportive to his players to develop them as players but also as people," explained Cuthbert. "He has created a band of brothers and I'm looking forward to joining it. The lads have been positive and very welcoming, making sure I'm in good hands and making me feel included and
part of it. I knew a few of the lads from playing PCSL and winning the championship with them in the summer and I'm looking forward to sharing the pitch with them again."

"Callum is an outstanding young goalkeeper with an incredible level of focus, drive, and dedication to his growth.  He clicked instantly with our group on his visit and I have no doubt he will come in and be a great addition to the program," added Simonson. "He matches the character and commitment of the players we are looking to bring to UNBC and we can't wait to have him join us for pre-season."

UNBC Athletics is thrilled to welcome Callum Cuthbert to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
