MSOC: Talented Winger Ryder Rusman Commits to UNBC

The UNBC Timberwolves Men's Soccer team is getting a solid dose of skill, speed and leadership to their commitment class of 2026. Earlier today, head coach Steve Simonson announced that 6'2" winger Ryder Rusman (Cobble Hill, B.C.) has committed to UNBC for the 2026 season and beyond.

Rusman, a soon-to-be graduate of Brentwood College School, split his senior season with Brentwood College School as well as the Mid Isle Mariners in Division 2 (Van Isle Men's League). The 17-year-old plans to study Marketing at UNBC.

Athletically and academically, Rusman is a great fit for UNBC. Not only did Rusman serve as captain for the Sr. Boys Varsity soccer club at Brentwood College, but he achieved a 90 percent + average, earning a place on the Honour Roll. Additionally he received the BC School Sports AA Boys Soccer 16 Leadership Award.

Rusman visited UNBC during the 2025 season, and came away impressed.

"What impressed me most was probably the level of play that the UNBC soccer team has, as well as how great the coaching staff are," reflected Rusman. "Steve is nice and fun to be around, and I like how he coaches. The team was very nice and welcoming, and I really like the positive environment."

"Ryder is a very high potential player and we're looking forward to having him join our program. He's a dynamic attacking player with an unbelievable appetite to learn and a personality that will fit our team very well. We can't wait to have him join us for preseason," added Simonson.

"Jumping up to Canada West is exciting. I'm excited to play on a high-level team against high-level players. A challenge will be the physical side, so I'll need to make sure I'm good technically and really fast so I can hold my own," concluded Rusman.

UNBC Athletics is thrilled to welcome Ryder Rusman to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
