WSOC: TWolves Welcome Reigning National Champs for Tailgate Weekend!

*Note*

Friday, September 5th the UNBC Timberwolves and Hub City Volkswagen are teaming up to host our annual Tailgate Party! The party will feature a DJ, a free barbecue for all UNBC students, a $2000 UNBC tuition waiver prize, lawn games, and prize draws.

The 2025 Canada West Women's Soccer season is in full-swing, and despite an 0-4-0 start, Neil Sedgwick's young squad has plenty to feel encouraged about in the early weeks of the season. The goalkeeping has been superb from Johanna Rathke, defensively the TWolves have held opponents to two-or-fewer goals in each of their past three matchups, and the offensive looks are coming. Last weekend at UFV, the TWolves managed 14 shots through two games. If those trends continue, the goals will come. That said, they'll face an incredibly tough test this weekend as they get set to battle the reigning National Champs from UBC in a pair of home matchups beginning Friday at 6:00 pm.
The Matchups:
UBC at UNBC – Friday, Sept. 5 at 6:00 pm.
UBC at UNBC – Sunday, Sept. 7 at 12:00 pm.

UBC Thunderbirds:

Record: 4-0-0
Goals For: 9 (1st in Canada West)
Goals Against: 0 (T-1st in Canada West)
Top Goal Scorer(s): Ella Sunde, Sienna Gibson, Ava Alexander (2)
Most Points: Jayda Thompson (3)
Most Saves: Emma Sparrow (4)

Player to Watch:

Now in her fourth year of eligibility, T-Birds forward Jayda Thompson brings a solid mix of speed, skill and finish to the pitch. After supplying eight conference goals a season ago, Thompson's role with UBC has only increased given some key departures after last season's undefeated run towards a National Championship.

UNBC Timberwolves:

Record: 0-4-0
Goals For: 1 (T-12th in Canada West)
Goals Against: 9 (14th in Canada West)
Top Goal Scorer: Scarlet Thomas (1)
Most Points: Scarlet Thomas (1)
Most Saves: Johanna Rathke (42 Saves)

Player to Watch: Scarlet Thomas

After missing the first two games of the season due to injury, Scarlet Thomas' return to the lineup last weekend provided a mega boost for her squad. Thomas' presence in the midfield did so much to provide a sense of experience and calm both offensively and defensively. Her penalty-kick goal in stoppage time on last Thursday marked her first career goal in Canada West, and there will undoubtedly be more to follow in the games ahead.
