Box Score The UNBC Timberwolves put forth a competitive performance on Saturday night but were unable to find the back of the net, falling 1-0 to the Trinity Western Spartans.

The Timberwolves controlled much of the opening half, creating several quality opportunities while keeping the Spartans' attack in check.

Sophie Postlethwaite, who returned to the starting lineup, provided an early spark for UNBC. The forward generated two chances in the ninth minute, but Trinity Western goalkeeper Yasmine Pahal was there to turn both attempts aside. Postlethwaite would earn Mr. Mike's Player of the Game honours for UNBC.

Through the opening 17 minutes, UNBC held a 3-1 advantage in shots and had enjoyed the better of the territorial play. The Timberwolves' defensive structure also kept Trinity Western from generating much offensively.

The Spartans created their first significant opportunity in the 18th minute when Charis Wardrope struck the iron with a shot from the top of the box.

Postlethwaite continued to be a consistent threat for UNBC, putting another shot on target in the 29th minute. She finished the opening 45 minutes with three shots, including two on goal.

Trinity Western controlled possession for a stretch late in the half, but the Timberwolves regained momentum before the break. Postlethwaite used her speed down the right wing to draw a foul and earn a free kick, providing UNBC with another opportunity to generate offence before halftime.

The second half, however, began with a major turning point.

Just two minutes after the restart, Trinity Western was awarded a penalty kick. Mansha Sidhu stepped up and calmly converted for her first goal of the season, putting the hosts ahead 1-0.
With the lead, the Spartans tightened up defensively and made it difficult for UNBC to generate sustained offensive pressure. The Timberwolves continued to battle, with Postlethwaite's work rate remaining evident as UNBC searched for an equalizer.

The physicality also increased as the second half progressed. UNBC's Abigayle Bradley and Maresha Manulak were each shown yellow cards as the Timberwolves continued to push for a way back into the match, but when the final horn sounded, the Trinity Western Spartans had earned their third victory of the season - A 1-0 final.

Goalkeeper Johanna Rathke kept UNBC within striking distance, making five saves on the night. At the other end, Pahal recorded her fourth clean sheet of the season with three saves for Trinity Western.

The Timberwolves fall to 0-6-0 on the season and will now head into their Canada West bye week.

UNBC will return to action in October, travelling to Abbotsford to face the University of the Fraser Valley on October 2.
