WSOC Preview: TWolves Gearing Up for Pride Night Clash Against UBCO

This weekend at Masich Place Stadium, the UNBC Women are looking to secure their first points of the season when they host the UBC Okanagan Heat for a single Friday night matchup. After a busy stretch to start the season, the TWolves are entering a weekend where they'll only play once. And with an energized, Pride Night crowd expected on Friday, the young TWolves are hoping that it can be a factor in allowing them secure their second consecutive home victory against UBCO dating back to September 15 a year ago.

UBC Okanagan Heat:
Record: 1-2-1
Goals For: 3 (T-9th in Canada West)
Goals Against: 6 (T-6th in Canada West)
Most Goals: Neala Peter, Abigail Taneda, Annika Gross (1)
Most Points: Abigail Taneda (2)
Most Saves: Talia Gagnon (20)

Player to Watch: Abigail Taneda

Fifth-year forward Abigail Taneda is one of UBCO's most dangerous attackers. The Kelowna product comes into the weekend with a goal and an assist for UBCO. Both of her points (so far) came last weekend during a pair of home games against Trinity Western and UFV. In two games against UNBC a season ago, Taneda was held pointless, but did have four shots.

UNBC Timberwolves:

Record: 0-6-0
Goals For: 1 (T-14th in Canada West)
Goals Against: 17 (15th in Canada West)
Most Goals: Scarlet Thomas (1)
Most Points: Scarlet Thomas (1)
Most Saves: Johanna Rathke (78)

Player to Watch: Johanna Rathke

Last weekend against UBC, TWolves goalkeeper Johanna Rathke was simply sensational. The first-year keeper from Germany made 17 saves on Friday during a hard-fought 3-0 loss, and the following Sunday she added 19 more saves to her conference and country-leading totals. After six games this season, Rathke has made 78 saves – many of which have been of supreme quality. Despite the barrage of shots against, Rathke's leadership and positivity have never wavered. She gives her squad a chance to win every time they take the field, and she'll be highly motivated to do so on Friday night at home.

Milestone Watch
  • Johanna Rathke's 78 saves puts her 63 saves away from matching, and 64 saves away from surpassing Winnipeg's Madison Priebe for the Canada West single-season saves record.
  • Kambria Mellum is now just three games shy of 50 for her Canada West career.
  • Kate Rattee is one game shy of 30.
  • Keeley Read and Maresha Manulak both recently reached the 20-game mark for their Canada West careers.
