Box Score The effort on both nights was commendable, but the UNBC Women are still in search of their first points of the 2025 Canada West season.
Friday night in Abbotsford, the TWolves dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to the UFV Cascades (2-2-0). A first-half strike from UFV's Kiana Langston provided the only offense on the evening for either squad. Cascades goalkeeper Addy Chen recorded a four-save clean sheet while UNBC's
Johanna Rathke added 10 more saves to her conference-leading totals.
In the 12th minute, the TWolves generated a pair of quality chances.
Aimee Glasser forced Chen into a strong save to keep the match level. 30 seconds later,
Keeley Read curled a right-footed effort just wide of the far post. Through the opening 20 minutes, UNBC controlled possession and dictated the tempo, rarely being forced into their own defensive third.
After 25 minutes, UNBC held a 4–0 edge in shots, with UFV still searching for a look on target.
Â
The flow of the match shifted dramatically in the 27th minute following an unfortunate injury to UNBC's
Fia Cameron. The third-year midfielder was forced off after appearing to suffer a lower-body injury. She required assistance leaving the pitch. First-year midfielder
Sophie Postlethwaite was called upon as Cameron's substitute.
Â
The Cascades finally tested Rathke in the 29th minute through Camryn Lyon, marking their first real threat of the match. Moments later, UFV capitalized: Kiana Langston, for the second consecutive night, found the back of the net with a blistering strike from inside the 18-yard box. Rathke managed to get a touch, but the effort kissed the underside of the bar and in, giving UFV the 1-0 edge.
Â
At half the score remained 1-0 for UFV who also held a slim 6-4 edge in shots.
Â
To their credit, UFV managed the match well after the break, limiting UNBC's ability to build pace and link play through the midfield.
Grace Barrett,
Kate Rattee, and
Aimee Glasser all put shots towards the goal in the second half, but Addy Chen stood tall, producing the necessary saves to preserve the Cascades' narrow advantage.
Â
Deep into stoppage time,
Scarlet Thomas latched onto a pass inside the penalty area and nearly created a look at goal, but UFV produced one final intervention to snuff out the chance. Moments later, the referee signaled full time, sealing a 1–0 victory and a sweep of the weekend series for the Cascades.
Â
The Timberwolves now sit at 0-4-0 on the season and will return to action at home next weekend against the reigning national champions from UBC. Games take place Friday (6:00 pm) and Sunday (12:00 pm) at Masich Place Stadium.
