WBB: Local Sharpshooting Guard Summer Toor Commits to Green and Gold

Another standout local athlete is staying North to continue living out her basketball dream.

UNBC Timberwolves head coach Sergey Shchepotkin announced today that soon-to-be College Heights Secondary graduate Summer Toor has committed to the UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball program, beginning in 2025-26.

Toor, a 5'6" shooting guard" is in the midst of her final high school season for head coach Wade Loukes' College Heights Cougars. Additionally Toor is playing club basketball with the Bounce Sports Academy and head coach Jordan Yu.

She's a two-time City All-Star and a three-time City champion, and averaged 15 points-per-game and 4.5 threes-per-game during the 2024 Provincials.

"I chose UNBC because it's in my hometown. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to play at the highest level in my hometown and I'm very excited to start playing at UNBC," shared Toor who gained a love for basketball at a young age from her mother who also played at a high level.

Sergey Shchepotkin's coaching also factored heavily into Toor's decision to commit.

"Sergey is a good coach. I've watched a lot of the games and I like his way of coaching," noted Toor whose three-point shot, speed and passing are the biggest strengths of her game. "He definitely noticed a good part of my game when he was watching me play in high school, so I'm looking forward to playing for him."

"Summer is one of the top local players in her age group, and we're excited to have her committed to play for her hometown team," added Shchepotkin. "She's a natural, confident shooter and has a great understanding for the game. She'll be a welcomed addition to our backcourt for the coming seasons."

As Toor's final season of high school ball continues, she's well aware of the steps needed in order to be Canada West ready for the fall.

"University ball is a lot faster than high school ball, so I'll need to improve the speed of my game," said Toor. "Especially with my height, I need to work on driving the ball to the rim."
Toor joins the likes of Brynn Dergousoff and Sophia Fuller as homegrown TWolves and knows that putting on the Timberwolves jersey for the first time will be an important moment in her life.
"When I put on the jersey for the first time it's going to feel great," concluded Toor. "Just seeing my family and friends in the crowd is going to boost my confidence and I can't wait for that moment."

UNBC Athletics is thrilled to welcome Summer to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
