WBB: TWolves Bolster Backcourt with the commitment of Aidrie’s Mya Regier

The UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball squad is getting an added dose of hustle and leadership as the 2026-27 roster continues to take shape. UNBC Women's Basketball head coach Sergey Shchepotkin announced today that 5'6" point guard Mya Regier (Airdrie, AB) has committed to UNBC for the 2026-27 campaign and beyond.

Regier, 18, plays high school ball at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, and plays club basketball at both the CBA (Calgary Basketball Association) and at Genesis. At Genesis, Regier is coached by former UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball alumna Anastasia Soltes.

Last season, Regier average 10.5 points, four assists and eight rebounds per game. This year she's already captured the "Heart of the Hound" Basketball award. During her Grade 11 season she earned both Most Oustanding Senior Player of the Year honours along with Notre Dame's Most Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year award.

In January, Regier visited UNBC and the combination of academics, basketball and the people she met all swayed her positively.

"Hearing my teammates speak on how personalized and strong the education makes it an environment that I know I want to be in," shared Regier who plans to study Nursing at UNBC. Regier's visit in late January timed perfectly with the Timberwolves Legacy Night, which only further cemented her excitement. "Seeing the community come together to support the Timberwolves was powerful. It was a beautiful environment. It made me want to be a part of it."

"We are happy to have Mya committed to UNBC," added head coach Sergey Shchepotkin. "It didn't take her long to make a positive impression on us during her visit, and we're excited to add her mix of skill, leadership and work ethic to our team."

Fans can expect a vocal, team-first mentality from the Timberwolves newest player. Regier concluded, "For the past two seasons at Notre Dame I've been captain and that has been a challenge to lead my team on and off the court, but I'm grateful for the experience. When I'm on the court, you'll always hear me talking. I'm guiding my team on offense, talking to them on defense, and holding them accountable while celebrating our victories."

UNBC Athletics is thrilled to welcome Mya Regier to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
