WBB: TWolves Drop Road Finale Saturday at UBC

Box Score On Saturday night in Vancouver, the UNBC Timberwolves concluded their road schedule for the 2025-26 season with a 97-41 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds at War Memorial Gym. Despite the tough result against a powerful opponent, Avin Jahangiri provided a bright spot for the Timberwolves, finishing with a team-high 12 points.

For the Thunderbirds, Olivia Weekes was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Sofia Bergman added 13 points and 9 boards.

The Thunderbirds established control early, opening the game on a run before Amrit Manak got UNBC on the board with a layup. Aurora Cabrera added a bucket inside, and Viktoriia Filatova drained a 3-pointer off a well-executed inbound play from Claire Huang. However, UBC's offense was efficient throughout the opening frame, and they built a 27-8 lead after ten minutes.

In the second quarter, the Timberwolves looked to attack the rim. Huang was aggressive, converting a tough "and-one" play and earning another trip to the line shortly after.  Filatova added a transition layup, and Phillips contributed with a score inside and a free throw. Despite UNBC's efforts to get to the charity stripe, UBC's size inside—led by Jaeli Ibbetson and Weekes—helped the hosts extend their lead to 54-20 at the halftime break.

The third quarter saw Avin Jahangiri begin to find her rhythm. After Cabrera opened the half with a layup and Manak connected from beyond the arc, Jahangiri scored on back-to-back possessions inside. The Timberwolves continued to battle, but the Thunderbirds maintained their scoring pace to take a 76-29 lead into the final quarter.

Jahangiri saved her best for the fourth. The forward showed her range, draining two 3-pointers—one assisted by Summer Toor—and adding another layup to lead the UNBC offense. Filatova also chipped in with a jumper and a layup down the stretch. UBC closed out the game with perimeter shooting from Kiarra Kelly to secure the 97-41 victory.
The Timberwolves will now return to Prince George for their final games of the regular season. They will host their Senior Weekend next week at the Northern Sport Centre, looking to finish the year on a high note in front of their home crowd.
