Bounaaja Sets Records as Timberwolves Make History with 6-0 Senior Day Masterpiece Over Heat

Box Score

On Sunday afternoon at Masich Place Stadium in Prince George, the UNBC Timberwolves men's soccer team closed out their 2026 Canada West campaign in historic fashion, dismantling the UBCO Heat 6-0 in a breathless offensive showcase. On an afternoon dedicated to celebrating graduating seniors, Mehdi Bounaaja delivered one of the greatest individual performances in program and conference history, racking up two goals and four assists for a school and conference in-game record of six points to run away with Mr.Mikes Player of the Game honors.

The Timberwolves took control immediately, setting a furious tempo right from kickoff. Kaiden Young generated an early look in the fourth minute that tested UBCO keeper Ronan Woodroffe, while Luis Hirsch marshaled the backline to shut down any Heat counter-attacks. In the 14th minute, UNBC broke the ice off a corner kick when Bounaaja delivered a pinpoint pass to graduating senior Pipeijn van der Ende, who buried the finish to score a storybook goal in his final appearance wearing the green and gold.

Just four minutes later, the Timberwolves struck again. Van der Ende returned the favor by finding Bounaaja, who unleashed an absolute rocket from the right wing into the top left corner to make it 2-0.

UNBC refused to take their foot off the gas. After goalkeeper Owen Shum made a routine stop on Gavin La Montagne in the 26th minute, the Timberwolves surged back down the pitch. In the 28th minute, Bounaaja carved open the defense once more, feeding Charlie Beauvais for his first career Canada West goal to push the lead to 3-0.

The defense held down the fort behind passionate shifts from departing seniors van der Ende, Trevor Scott, and Adam Korduner, while Shum came up with a sensational diving stop in the 35th minute to rob Allan Yin on a laser from point-blank range.

UBCO turned to backup keeper Jake Beresford, but the UNBC onslaught continued. In the 40th minute, Bounaaja drew the charging keeper toward him and selflessly squared a pass to Korduner, who slotted it home to give the senior a unforgettable farewell goal and send UNBC into halftime ahead 4-0.

The second half was more of the same as the Timberwolves pressed relentlessly from the restart. In the 50th minute,Korduner struck again, converting another sublime dish from Bounaaja to notch his second of the match and make it 5-0.

Beauvais, Simon Odenthal, and Kosta Adzic kept the Heat on their heels with continuous chances, while the UNBC faithful had more reason to cheer when Jayden Lidder checked into the match in the 73rd minute to make his Canada West debut.

The crowning moment of the afternoon arrived in the 69th minute. Bounaaja capped his historic outing by dancing through the UBCO backline to net his second goal of the day, sealing his record-breaking sixth point of the match and elevating the Timberwolves to a 6-0 lead, the highest single-game goal total in UNBC men's soccer history. His six points also stand as a single-game conference record!

When the final whistle sounded, the Timberwolves celebrated an unforgettable send-off for seniors Adam Korduner, Pipeijn van der Ende, and Trevor Scott, each leaving a lasting legacy on the pitch. With record-setting milestones, dominant team chemistry, and a statement victory to close out the fall, UNBC concludes 2026 on the highest possible note as they look ahead to 2027.
