Friday night at Masich Place Stadium, the UNBC Timberwolves (0-1-0) kicked off their 2026-2027 Canada West campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to the visiting TRU WolfPack (1-0-0). Despite the defeat, Aimee Glasser was a constant attacking threat for the Timberwolves, earning Mr. Mikes Player of the Game honors after firing six total shots, including three on target.

The match opened with the Timberwolves setting a good pace. Grace Barrett recorded UNBC's first quality chance just six minutes in, but her strike was stopped by TRU goalkeeper Floor Ursem.

Moments later, the WolfPack were awarded a penalty kick, presenting an early test for UNBC keeper Johanna Rathke. TRU's Berea Woldeyes stepped up, but Ratke was spectacular, diving to the bottom left corner to make a massive save and keep the game scoreless.

The WolfPack continued to press, with Hannah Saxon hitting the post in the 11th minute and Sara Kuusimäki forcing another save from Ratke in the 25th.

UNBC found their footing again thanks to the relentless work rate of Glasser, who created havoc up the wing. In the 36th minute, a well-worked UNBC corner taken by Maresha Manulak found RJ Barfoot, whose shot was parried away by Ursem.

Barrett followed up with another chance that was also turned aside. Glasser closed out the half by stealing the ball from a TRU corner and driving up the pitch, once again putting her hustle on full display. That defensive stop also ensured the teams entered the break locked at 0-0, with TRU holding an 11-7 edge in shot attempts.

The second half began with a quick strike from the visitors. In the 46th minute, TRU's Kat Stewart set up Saxon, who found the back of the net from the wing to give the WolfPack a 1-0 lead.

UNBC immediately pushed for an equalizer. Glasser tested Ursem again in the 50th and 61st minutes. The 60th minute marked a special moment for the program, as local Prince George products Alexa Talbot and Hannah Richards subbed in to make their Canada West debuts for the Timberwolves.

Rathke kept UNBC in the game with a crucial double-save in the 67th minute, setting up a frantic finish. In the 85th minute,

Barrett went on a brilliant run upfield but missed the target by the narrowest of margins. In stoppage time, Glasser fired two consecutive late shots in a desperate bid to tie the game, but the TRU defense held firm to secure the 1-0 victory.

The Timberwolves will look to bounce back and secure their first win of the season on Sunday when they host the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Cascades at Masich Place Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
