The UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball program has added more international talent to its up and coming roster, announcing the commitment of German guard Greta Seeliger (Bad Homberg, GER) for the 2026-27 season.
Seeliger joins the Timberwolves after developing her game with the Bad Homburg Falcons. Versatile and competitive, the 5'7" guard impacts the game in a variety of ways on both ends of the floor.
"I consider myself a 1, 2, or 3, but I also feel comfortable playing as a 4 or 5 and defending bigger players," said Seeliger. "I would describe myself as an all-around player. I can score, assist, and rebound well, and I especially love playing defense."
Seeliger's basketball résumé includes a bronze medal at the 2025 German U18 3x3 Championships and multiple selections to the Hesse state team. She began playing basketball at the age of 10 and quickly developed a passion for competition.
"I love basketball because I love to compete and I enjoy being in a goal-oriented and dedicated environment," she explained. "The sport constantly pushes me to improve, both individually and as part of a team. I love being part of a team with energy and motivation and growing together as players and people. Basketball has helped me build friendships far beyond the game itself."
For Seeliger, the decision to commit to UNBC was about much more than basketball. After meeting with Coach Shchepotkin and learning more about the Timberwolves program, she felt a strong connection to both the university and the community.
"Coach Sergey came to visit me and my family in Frankfurt a couple of months ago," said Seeliger. "That effort really showed me that he wanted me to join the team. The way he spoke so highly about the Timberwolves basketball program, the girls on the team, the university, and the community really impressed me."
She added: "His philosophy for the game aligns with what I love about basketball. I'm excited to work with him and my new teammates to achieve our goals while continuing to improve my individual game. I also can't wait to get to Prince George, make it my new home, and get to know Canada."
Away from the court, Seeliger will pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in International Business.Â
When she's not in the gym, Seeliger enjoys running, playing beach volleyball, and working toward a personal goal of completing a half-marathon.
The Timberwolves are excited to welcome Greta to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
