The UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball program has added an experienced play-maker to their roster, announcing the commitment of Kamloops product Nevena Nogic.
Nogic joins the Timberwolves after spending the past season at UBC Okanagan and arrives with an impressive basketball résumé that includes provincial accolades and experience with the U-18 and U-16 Serbian national team. A 5-foot-11 combo guard, she will enter her second year of eligibility while pursuing a degree in Finance at UNBC.
"We're excited to add Nevena to our young, up-and-coming group," said UNBC Women's Basketball Head Coach Sergey Shchepotkin. "She brings talent, experience and energy to our program. Nevena has big athletic and academic goals, and I think we can help maximize her potential in both areas."
A graduate of Sa-Hali Secondary in Kamloops, Nogic developed through the BBall4All program under the guidance of her father and coach, Goran Nogic. Her basketball accomplishments include invitations to both the Serbian U16 and U18 National Team training camps.
During her high school career, Nogic established herself as a top player in B.C. She earned Top Scorer and All-Star honours in the BC Champions League in 2024, was named a Player of the Game during the 2024 BC Provincials and collected multiple All-Star selections at the Okanagan Championship and Fulton Cup tournaments.
Off the court, Nogic has shown excellence in the classroom, earning Academic Honour Roll recognition throughout Grades 9, 10, and 11 while also receiving the Sa-Hali Secondary Block Award for academic and athletic excellence.
Nogic credits basketball for providing both enjoyment and focus throughout her development.
"I grew up around the sport and learned to enjoy it from a young age," said Nogic. "The gym always gave me space to pause and to just focus on one thing at a time."
When considering her next step, Nogic quickly felt at home during her visit to Prince George.
"As soon as I stepped into the gym, the first thing I felt was welcomed, from my teammates and the coaching staff," she said. "I knew with Coach Sergey I was going to improve as a player the most, and that he is not afraid to push me to become better."
Nogic brings a unique basketball pedigree to UNBC. Her older sister, Jovana Nogic, has enjoyed a successful professional career in Europe and the WNBA.
