WSOC Preview: TWolves Off to Kamloops for a Mid-Season Showdown with TRU

It's another quiet week for the UNBC Timberwolves who's lone match takes place on Saturday afternoon in Kamloops against the TRU WolfPack. Saturday's clash marks the second meeting of the season between the two rivals – the first of which took place back on August 22nd in Prince George.

TRU WolfPack
Record: 4-3-0
Goals For: 10 (T-6th in Canada West)
Goals Against: 9 (10th in Canada West)
Most Goals: Esi Lufo (5)
Most Points: Esi Lufo (5)
Most Saves: Floor Ursem (28)

Player to Watch: Esi Lufo

Third-year forward Esi Lufo comes into the weekend tied for second in the conference with five goals scored. The pride of Tirane, Albania has already obliterated her previous season high for goals (which was 2) while only missing five minutes of play through TRU's first seven games. When the WolfPack and Timberwolves met on opening night, Lufo registered two goals and an assist.

UNBC Timberwolves:

Record: 0-7-0
Goals For: 1 (T-14th in Canada West)
Goals Against: 23 (T-14th in Canada West)
Most Goals: Scarlet Thomas (1)
Most Points: Scarlet Thomas (1)
Most Saves: Johanna Rathke (87)

Player to Watch: Kate Rattee

It's not a matter of it, but a matter of when for third-year forward Kate Rattee. Each game Rattee seems to put herself in prime position to score, and despite some frustrating near misses – the Kamloops native is keeping a remarkable level-head. Rattee's confidence is high and deservedly so. Here's hoping that a weekend in front of friends and family can help spark the offense of the Timberwolves. Rattee's lone career Canada West goal did come against TRU last season at home.

Milestone Watch
  • Johanna Rathke's 87 saves puts her 54 saves away from matching, and 55 saves away from surpassing Winnipeg's Madison Priebe for the Canada West single-season saves record.
  • Kambria Mellum is now just two games shy of 50 for her Canada West career.
  • Kate Rattee reached Game #30 of her Canada West career last weekend against UBCO.
