The wait is over!

The 2025 Canada West Women's soccer season gets underway on Friday at 5:30 pm when the UNBC Timberwolves Women battle their closest geographical rivals, the TRU WolfPack. The two sides will then wrap up their weekend double-header on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 pm. Neil Sedgwick's group has had a busy pre-season and they're looking to start their season on a positive note Friday night.

TRU WolfPack Overview:

UNBC Timberwolves

2024 Record: 1-13-0 (8th in Pacific Division)
2024 Goals For: 7 (16th in Canada West)
2024 Goals Against: 14 (Tied for 12th in Canada West)
2024 Goals Leader: Claire Turner (3)
2024 Assists Leader: Kjera Hayman (3)
2024 Points Leader: Claire Turner, Kjera Hayman (3)
Saves Leader: Brityn Hinsche (124)

Player to Watch: Maleah Fernie

Maleah Fernie is entering her third season at UNBC ready to take her game to an even higher level. The Kamloops product was named team MVP in 2024 after playing every single second of soccer for her squad while adding an assist. One of UNBC's greatest strengths heading into 2025 is their backline and Fernie of course plays a huge part in that. Keeping the ball away from the back-third of the field will be a big key both this weekend and all-season long for UNBC, and this weekend will provide a strong first test.

The Quote Rack:

"We have a strong group. Last year we had a lot of rookies, but now they're second years and they know what to expect, and the 2025 class of rookies is strong. I'm excited for TRU to come here. Historically we've held ourselves well against them, and I think that it'll be a really good home opener for everyone."
