The UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball team wraps up their 2025 campaign on Friday night at 5:30 pm when they clash with their rivals from TRU for the first time this season.
Anybody watching the UNBC Women closely can vouch for their improvement in recent weeks - both in competitiveness and execution. Last Saturday, the TWolves trailed by 18 points at half, but stormed back in the second half to within two points largely thanks to the stellar play of third-year guard
Viktoriia Filatova.
Filatova reached the 25-point mark for the third time in 11 tries this season, and heading into action Friday her 15.7 points-per-game ranks her sixth in conference scoring.
On Friday it was rookie sharpshooter
Summer Toor who set a new career high with 15 points, all on the strength of five successful threes. UNBC has gotten solid rookie contributions from all of their first-year players including: Toor,
Lorenn Caceres,
Hazel Phillips and
Aurora Cabrera.
Cabrera remains a top rebounder in all of Western Canada, averaging 8.8 per game.
The top rebounder in Canada West though plays in the squad that UNBC will be facing Friday – second-year forward Morgan Eichenberger. The Kamloops native is averaging double-digit rebounds per-game (10.2) while also providing 10.7 points-per-game which ties her with first-year Ukrainian guard Olena Vasylenko for the team lead.
TRU brings a 4-7 record into Friday's contest, and offensively they rank near the bottom of the conference with an average of 47.5 points-per-game. UNBC is slightly ahead of the 'Pack with an average of 49.3.
Friday's matchup with TRU begins at 5:30 PM and can be seen live on Canada West TV, presented by BioSteel.
