After a two-week stint of road games, Sergey Shchepotkin's club returns to the friendly confines of the Northern Sport Centre this weekend to battle the Victoria Vikes (4-5) twice, beginning Friday at 6:00 pm, followed by a Saturday, 5:00 pm clash.
The Timberwolves are coming off a split last weekend with UFV. On Friday the Timberwolves were finally rewarded for their better play as of late and earned a 68-63 victory. The next night didn't' go nearly as well, but veteran guard
Sophia Fuller and co. are happy to be back at home and are excited for the challenge that the Vikes present to them.
"Being on the road was good for our team, and we can take positives from Friday's win at UFV. That said, we're excited to be back home, and we're looking forward to the opportunity to face the Vikes," remarked Fuller who will suit up in her 50
th career game in Green and Gold tomorrow night.
Offensively the TWolves are led by the tandem of
Viktoriia Filatova (15.2 PPG) and rookie
Hazel Phillips (7.7 PPG). Phillips' rookie season has been impressive as she heads into this weekend tied for fourth among conference rookies in total points and is ninth among all U SPORTS rookies for points.
If the TWolves want to beat the Vikes, containing 6'4" forward Abigail Becker is going to be task #1. The fifth-year product of Parksville leads the Vikes in scoring with an average of 12.9 points-per-game and defensively she's tied for first in conference rebounding alongside UNBC's
Aurora Cabrera.
Friday night is Nats'ilnik Day at the NSC, and Saturday is the first annual "Warm Up the North" Night, where fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used winter clothing items to donate. Anyone who donates receives free admission to both games that night.
