After a lengthy home stand to kick-off their season, perhaps a trip to the Okanagan will be a. good thing for the UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball squad. Last weekend at home, Sergey Shchepotkin's crew put forth their two best and most complete efforts of the season against a talented Trinity Western squad. UNBC went into the fourth quarter of both days trailing by two-or-fewer points, and now the focus for this young team becomes consistency and finding that 'little bit extra.'
"Last weekend we put ourselves in a position to win twice, and it'll be important for us to build off of those positives against UBCO," shared fourth-year guard
Amrit Manak.
The standout performer for UNBC last weekend offensively was
Viktoriia Filatova who had 20 and 26 points respectively, pushing her season age up to 16.2 points-per-game. On the defensive side of the floor,
Aurora Cabrera snagged a season-high 16 rebounds on Saturday. She heads into this weekend ranked #2 in the conference rebounding with a 9.2 average.
UBCO is 3-3, but are 1-3 over their past four. Third-year guard Kanani Coon leads the Heat with an average of 17.0 points-per-game while also averaging 3.5 assists. On October 26 against UNBC, Coon had 17 points and eight assists in a road victory.
The TWolves and Heat begin their weekend double-header in Kelowna on Friday night at 7:30 pm, and will wrap things up Saturday at 6:30 pm.
