The UNBC Timberwolves got a major defensive boost prior to the start of the 2025-26 Canada West basketball season thanks to the commitment of first-year Spanish center
Aurora Cabrera (Girona, Spain).
Cabrera, 6'2" joined the TWolves in September and has immediately provided the young Timberwolves squad with a dose of size, physicality and rebounding prowess. After five games Cabrera sits second in the Canada West conference with an average of 9.4 rebounds-per-game and her 2.2 blocks-per-game rank her third in Western Canada.
"I like the team, I like the city, and UNBC has been a good fit for me," shared Cabera, a graduate of IES Rocagrossa High School and is studying Computer Sciences.
Cabrera has fit right in with her new teammates and the coaching staff. It helps that Sergey Shchepotkin historically has worked wonders with previous international players. "He's direct with what he wants, and makes his intentions very clear, which I really like," observed Cabrera. "Plus, my teammates have a lot of talent and they have helped me adapt to this new place.'
"Aurora has stepped in and has made an immediate impact on both sides of the floor," adds Sergey Shchepotkin who has put Cabrera into his Starting Five in three of his team's past five games. "In her short time here she's shown that she can rebound at an elite level and her confidence should continue to grow in the months to come."
After beginning the season with five straight games at home, Cabrera and the TWolves are off to Kelowna this weekend for a Friday-Saturday showdown with the UBC Okanagan Heat.
UNBC Athletics is thrilled to welcome
Aurora Cabrera to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
