MBB: TWolves Hang Tough, But Ultimately Fall to TRU Friday at Home

Friday night at the NSC, the UNBC Timberwolves kept things tight early, but a strong fourth quarter lifted the Thompson Rivers WolfPack to a 77-60 road victory. Jayden Stephens and Cason Scott each bagged 15 for TRU while UNBC's Chris Ainsley led all scorers with 18 points to go along with eight boards.

TRU edged ahead 19–18 after the opening quarter, with six different Timberwolves getting on the board. Chris Ainsley and Miller Davies led UNBC offensively with five points apiece, while Ainsley was active on the glass, pulling down four first-quarter rebounds. Jayden Stephens paced the visitors with seven points in the frame, followed by Cason Scott with five.

The WolfPack began to create separation in the second, outscoring UNBC 17–10. Scott and Steve Stinson each chipped in four points for TRU, while Scott also led the team with five rebounds in the half. Ainsley continued to anchor the Timberwolves, adding five more points to finish with a game-high 10 at the break. Ainsley and Davies each had six rebounds through two quarters to lead UNBC.

UNBC responded coming out of halftime, winning the third quarter 17–15 behind the shooting of Ainsley and Tony Kibonge. Ainsley scored seven in the period, while Kibonge knocked down two three-pointers for six points. Gavin Reis provided a spark off the bench for TRU with six points, and Dami Farinloye helped on the boards with four rebounds. The UNBC crowd was fully engaged as the hosts looked to build momentum heading into the final frame.

That momentum stalled in the fourth, however, as TRU delivered its most productive offensive quarter of the night. Stephens poured in seven points, while Farinloye added six to help the WolfPack pull away. UNBC struggled to find a rhythm offensively, with five players scoring in the quarter but no Timberwolf converting more than a single field goal.

The Timberwolves will close out their 2025–26 Canada West season tomorrow night, hosting TRU one final time at 7:00 p.m.
