MBB: TWolves Fall Just Short in Season Finale vs. TRU

The UNBC Timberwolves wrapped up their Canada West season with a hard-fought battle on Saturday night, but ultimately fell 78–76 to the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack in a tightly contested affair that came down to the final 30 seconds.

The Timberwolves set the tone early with a gritty defensive effort, edging TRU 13–11 through the opening ten minutes. Danilo Gonzalez led the charge for UNBC, scoring seven points while controlling the glass with five rebounds. For the WolfPack, Cason Scott provided the early spark, tallying six points in the quarter.

Offenses opened up in the second as both teams found rhythm at the other end of the floor. TRU outscored UNBC 25–21, getting balanced production with Jaeden Bynoe and Jayden Green contributing five points apiece. Justin Sunga answered for the Timberwolves with five of his own, while Haukur Davidsson ignited the home crowd with a thunderous dunk. At the break, UNBC saw Sunga, Gonzalez, and Ainsley all sitting with seven points, while Green and Scott paced TRU with eight each.

The game remained neck-and-neck coming out of halftime, with UNBC narrowly winning the third 21–20. Wesley Ainu'u provided a lift off the bench, scoring six points, and Sunga continued his strong night with eight more. TRU relied on depth and balance, as seven different WolfPack players found the scoresheet, led by four points apiece from Gavin Reis and Steve Stinson. After 30 minutes, TRU held a slim 56–55 edge.

The final frame was a back-and-forth battle that featured multiple lead changes and plenty of late-game drama. Sunga poured in nine points in the quarter, while Ainu'u added seven more, pushing him to a new career-high 13 points. In the end, it was a clutch three-pointer from Cason Scott with 30 seconds remaining that proved to be the difference, as the WolfPack escaped with a two-point victory—earning their 12th win of the Canada West season.

Despite the result, the Timberwolves showcased resilience and balance in their season finale, pushing one of their biggest rivals to the wire.
