MBB: Spanish Shooting Guard Danilo Gonzalez Commits to UNBC Timberwolves Ahead of 2024-25 Canada West season

Prince George, B.C. – The UNBC Timberwolves backcourt is getting a massive dose of range, defensive intensity, and international flair. Timberwolves head coach Todd Jordan announced today that 6'5" shooting guard Danilo Gonzalez (Canary Islands, Spain) has committed to UNBC for the 2024-25 season and beyond.

Gonzalez, 19, is heading West to UNBC and the Canada West conference after averaging 18 points, six rebounds and four assists per game with Lennoxville Prep School under the watchful eye of head coach Djibril Ngom. Previously, Gonzalez also spent time playing for head coach Ronald Gomez at Lenovo Tenerife (YBCL).

"In my opinion I'm an all-around player. I can play defense on almost every position and also on offence I really like to create fastbreaks, finish hard on the rim, and shoot threes whenever I can," shared Gonzalez who recently (in March, 2024) participated in the True North Prep national championship tournament in Toronto and received Player of the Game honours during a victory for Lennoxville on March 27.

"I'm excited to add Danilo to the roster," stated head coach Todd Jordan. "He's played at a high level in Spain and that, along with his prep year experience in Quebec has prepared him to be ready for Canada West basketball. Danilo gives us guard size defensively and he is a good finisher at the rim and in transition. I expect him to be able to contribute early on in his university career."

The reputation of the Canada West conference for it's elite competition was a major driving force in bringing Gonzalez West to UNBC. He added, "Canada West is the most competitive conference in U SPORTS, so I'm excited to play at that competitive level. U SPORTS leagues are physical leagues, so I'm trying to get prepare my body to play through that. I'm working on my footwork and shooting."

Academically, Gonzalez plans to study Mathematics while continuing his basketball journey that begun at the age of 5.

UNBC Athletics is thrilled to welcome Danilo Gonzalez to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
