Prince George, B.C. – The UNBC Timberwolves men's basketball program has received another commitment from a calculated, aggressive guard with strong leadership qualities. Head Coach Todd Jordan announced today that Vancouver College varsity captain Isaiah Bias (Vancouver, B.C.) has committed to UNBC for the 2024-25 season and beyond.
Bias heads North to UNBC in the Fall after completing a remarkable final season with the Vancouver College Fighting Irish, led by coaches Mer Marghetti and Ryan Shams. During the regular season he averaged 17.2 points-per-game along with 5.3 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 3.4 steals and 0.4 blocks. In the playoffs he upped his points-per-game to 23.3 while averaging 6.3 boards. Bias has served as captain in each of his previous two high school seasons and in 2023-24 was named Team MVP and captured all-star honours at the Burnaby South Tournament, the Sea-to-Sky Tournament and the B.C. Catholics Tournament. At the club level, Bias suited up for DRIVE Basketball and coaches Karn Sharda and Pasha Bains.
Scholastically Bias earned a spot on the President's Honour Roll in October, 2022 and plans to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce – Marketing at UNBC.
"I'm a quick, up-tempo guard that loves to push the ball up the court and attack the hoop," revealed Bias who also participated in high school football, volleyball and track and field. "I like distributing [the ball] to, because when I get my guys going I can push myself to a different level."
In April, Bias attended the Timberwolves Spring ID Camp and became the third player to commit to the program after that meeting. He added, "Committing to UNBC was an easy decision. Something that struck my attention was the program's culture and core beliefs. They play very unselfish basketball and that's something I want to be a part of. "I really like UNBC's facilities. The Northern Sports Centre is definitely a place I see myself being at every day."
Fresh off a bronze medal victory in the 2024 Canada West playoffs, Todd Jordan has worked hard to re-tool the TWolves with speed, work-ethic and 'love for the game' at the forefront. His latest commit possesses all of those qualities in droves. "I'm extremely excited to be adding Isaiah to our team. He's a shifty playmaking guard that will bring a leadership dynamic to our roster. He is a good athlete, but more importantly he'll bring positive energy to what we were doing and contribute right away to our team culture. I know a number of our guys expressed that they loved playing with him at ID Camp, and we are excited to have him come in at the end of the Summer."
The transition to Canada West play is something that Bias is excited about. I'm excited to compete with and against the best in the country," concluded Bias. "Playing at the next level involves way more physicality and better decision-making so those are things that I am going to strengthen when I'm at UNBC."
