On the eve of the 2026 Canada West soccer regular season beginning for UNBC, there is one final piece of commitment business to attend to. 

Head Coach Steve Simonson announced today that 18-year-old defender Luis Beck (Bous, Germany) has committed to UNBC for 2026 and beyond.

A right back who began playing soccer at just five years old, Beck arrives in Prince George after developing with 1. FC Saarbrücken under coach Joscha Klauck. Last season he logged more than 85 percent of his team's playing time and he prides himself on his ability to think through the game at an elite level.

"I was impressed by the campus, especially the nature around it," says Beck, who will study International Business at UNBC. "My future teammates have been very welcoming and friendly."
Beck's initial impression of coach Simonson has been a major positive as well.

"Luis Beck made an immediate impression during our first conversations," says Simonson. "He is a very humble and respectful young man but carries himself with a very quiet confidence."
That confidence has continued to shine on the field.

"His on-field performances continue to impress, as he demonstrates his quality and his intelligence on the field," Simonson adds. "He fits our playing philosophy to a tee and is building very good relationships on and off the field with his teammates. "We cannot wait to see his impact at the U SPORTS level."

For Beck, joining UNBC represents an exciting new chapter — one that combines his passion for soccer with the opportunity to experience life on the other side of the Atlantic.
