The UNBC Timberwolves are adding another exciting international piece, welcoming German midfielder Simon Odenthal to the Men's Soccer program for 2026 and beyond.

A native of Arzbach, Germany, Odenthal joins the Timberwolves after developing with EGC Wirges under head coach Sven Baldus. The 19-year-old brings an attacking rmindset to Prince George, having recorded nine goals and 10 assists during his most recent season.

Odenthal primarily plays as a central attacking midfielder or false nine and says, "I love soccer because it lets you feel free and at peace."

Now, Odenthal is ready to experience a new challenge on the other side of the world while pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at UNBC.

Odenthal was also quick to point to head coach, Steve Simonson, as an important part of his decision.

"What impressed me about Coach Steve is that he has already been so long in this league and at this university, and the fact that he is both a good coach and a great person," Odenthal says.

"Simon has been an incredible addition to our program," adds Steve Simonson. "He is a very well rounded attacking player with a versatility that allows him to play in a variety of ways within our team.  He has a very high focus and high standard on the field while still enjoying a great social connection with the group.  We are very excited to see him playing in U SPORTS and are proud to have him as part of the Timberwolves."

While the facilities and coaching staff made an impression, it was the culture within the Timberwolves dressing room that stood out most to Odenthal.

"What impresses me about my future teammates is that they are a great unit even though the team consists of so many different people from different places and countries," Odenthal says. "They are so welcoming and just really nice people."

For Odenthal, the next chapter begins with the Timberwolves on Friday when UNBC opens at home against TRU at 8:00 pm.
