The UNBC Timberwolves are adding another promising young goalkeeper to the fold ahead of the 2026 season as Kamloops product Owen McMillan has committed to the Green and Gold.

McMillan, a graduate of South Kamloops Secondary School, has spent last season with Kamloops United FC. Now, he's is ready to take the next step with the Timberwolves while pursuing a degree in Business. His long-term goal is to become a finance lawyer.

"I love soccer because it gives me ambition for self improvement," said McMillan who earned a Honour Roll and Gold Cord status during his final year of high school. 

His path to UNBC has included working with South Kamloops head coach Mike Deccico and Kamloops United FC coach Darren Sarll, both of whom have helped prepare him for the next chapter of his career.

A visit to UNBC helped confirm that Prince George was the right fit.

"The campus is very nice and the team energy is incredible," he adds.

McMillan was particularly impressed by the leadership of Timberwolves head coach Steve Simonson and the culture within the Timberwolves dressing room, where he saw a group committed to pushing one another while maintaining a positive environment.

"Steve is a terrific speaker and you can't help but listen to and take in everything he says. And everybody on the team pushes each other to be better while also keeping a positive attitude," claimed McMillan..

For Simonson and the Timberwolves, McMillan represents another exciting addition to the program's goalkeeping group.

"Owen has slotted in seamlessly as a member of our goalkeeping team. He has an incredible work ethic, is extremely coachable and has a strong technical foundation in the position.  In our preseason games he has demonstrated the potential to be a solid goalkeeper at the U SPORTS level in the years to come," added the head coach.

Away from the pitch, McMillan is fluent in French and can play the piano.
