MSOC: Rookie Josh Jordan’s Brace Guides UNBC Men to First Ever 3-0 Start

For the first time in program history, the UNBC Men's Soccer team has opened the season with three straight wins.

Friday night in Langley, the Timberwolves twice fell behind but clawed back on both occasions to keep themselves in it. Then, in the 68th minute, first-year striker Josh Jordan completed his brace, calmly slotting home what proved to be the match-winner in a thrilling 3-2 result over the Trinity Western Spartans (0-3-0). UNBC's other tally came when Isaac Tate's shot from in close deflected in off a Spartans defender, officially ruled an own goal. For Trinity Western, JJ Janzen and Frances Powell found the scoresheet in response.

Both sides came out flying, matching tempo and physicality right from the opening whistle. For UNBC, playing their first road match of the campaign, the key was to keep the hosts from finding rhythm early. For the winless home side, conceding first simply wasn't an option.

In the 28th minute, Frances Powell created something seemingly out of nothing — cutting wide, then back inside of the penalty area, before tucking a low strike past a fully-extended Logan Pierce, giving Trinity Western a 1-0 advantage.

The TWolves answered quickly in the 34th. Isaac Tate, electric as ever down the left flank, burned his defender and whipped a pinpoint pass into the area. Rookie forward Josh Jordan met it in stride, redirecting it home with perfect finesse for his first Canada West goal.

At half, each team had one shot on target, and one goal to their credit.

Nearly seven minutes after the restart, Trinity's JJ Janzen broke the deadlock with his first-ever Canada West tally. Logan Pierce made a brilliant stop on Kieran Eve's initial effort, but the rebound fell kindly, and Janzen was there from point-blank range to slot it home.

Less than five minutes later, though, Steve Simonson's side hit right back. A free-kick delivery caused chaos in the box, eventually landing at the feet of Isaac Tate. The winger fired goalward, resulting in a deflection off a Trinity defender and in. The own goal resulted in a 2-2 scoreline.

In the 68th minute, UNBC grabbed the lead. A long throw from Adam Korduner dropped into the Trinity Western penalty area, where Hagon Kim muscled possession and quickly picked out the far post. Waiting unmarked was rookie Josh Jordan, who calmly buried his second of the night — his brace putting the TWolves ahead 3-2.

Defensively, the TWolves held their own and never truly allowed the Spartans to mount a Grade A attack in the game's final moments.

The 3-0 Timberwolves return to action tomorrow night against the same Trinity Western Spartans at 7:15 pm in Langley.
