Friday night at Brownridge Court the UNBC Timberwolves Women (4-11) dropped the opener of a Friday-Saturday double-header with the UFV Cascades (12-5) by a 77-56 score. Maddy Gobeil poured in 23 for UFV to lead the way while Julia Tuchscherer added 12 points and 13 boards.
Sarah Kuklisin and
Amrit Manak each responded with 12 apiece for UNBC and
Sveta Boykova was solid once again on the glass, grabbing 13 boards.
Boykova also became the UNBC Timberwolves Women's Basketball team's all-time leader in assists when she inbounded a pass to Sarah Kuklisin in the first quarter.  Boykova's 213th career assist surpassed the previous record held by Madison Landry.
1st Quarter –
- UFV outscored UNBC 21-15 in the opening quarter.
- The Cascades began the night on a 15-3 run with Gobeil pumping in two early triples.
- All 15 points in the first for UNBC came from the duo of Mesquita (8) and Kuklisin (7). The two soon-to-be UNBC grads went a combined three-for-three from deep, and helped vault UNBC back within striking distance.
- Esther Allison led all UFV players with seven first quarter points.
2nd Quarter - Â
- The visitors pushed their lead to 14 points after a 23-15 edge in the second.
- Nikki Cabuco hit a pair of threes and led the way with eight points for the Cascades while Ankita Chopra added a triple of her own.
- The offensive star in the second for UNBC was Manak who shot three-of-five and hit once from downtown, giving her seven.
- At the half the score showed 44-30 for UFV. Gobeil led with 10 points while 10 of Tuchscherer's eventual 13 boards came in the opening half.
- UNBC's leading scorer at the half was Mesquita with eight. Boykova had a team-high five rebounds.
3rd Quarter –
- UNBC began the third on an 8-0 run, and were able to push themselves back to within six. Viktoriia Filatova hit a layup, Boykova hit a three, and Kuklisin added three more to make that happen.
- Brynn Dergousoff finished with a team-high five points in the third.
- Back came the Cascades who eventually settled in and got five points apiece from Google Sidhu and Bernie Leda. Gobeil supplied the other four UFV points.
4th Quarter –
- Gobeil saved her best for last for UFV. The perennial all-star poured in nine fourth quarter points in a 19-9 edge for UFV.
- Five of UNBC's final nine points of the night came from Manak who hit a triple and two free-throws.
- The final score read 77-56 for the Cascades.
