The University of Northern British Columbia's signature celebration of athletics, community, and excellence is returning this fall, with one of Canada's most decorated soccer figures headlining the evening.
UNBC, in partnership with Canadian Tire, is pleased to welcome Canadian soccer legend Karina LeBlanc as the featured guest speaker for the 12th annual UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Night taking place Wednesday, Oct. 21 at the Prince George Civic Centre.
A trailblazer on and off the pitch, LeBlanc brings nearly two decades of experience with Canada's national team. The Maple Ridge, B.C. product represented Canada in five FIFA Women's World Cups and two Olympic Games. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she earned a bronze medal. Known for her leadership, resilience, and infectious energy, she has transitioned from an elite athlete to executive and global voice for inclusion. LeBlanc has served as a UNICEF Canada ambassador since March, 2013 and in December of 2022, LeBlanc was appointed to the Order of Canada.
Her work has taken her from locker rooms to boardrooms, including appearances at the United Nations and global stages such as TEDx. Beyond her professional achievements, she remains deeply committed to advocacy through her foundation work, mentorship and leadership in advancing women's sport.
"Legacy Night is about more than just celebrating athletic excellence—it's about inspiring the next generation of leaders," says UNBC's Interim President Dr. Bill Owen. "Karina LeBlanc embodies everything this event stands for. Her journey, her message, and her impact reaches far beyond sport. We're incredibly excited to welcome her to Prince George."
Now in its 12th year, Legacy Night continues to be a cornerstone event for Timberwolves Athletics, raising funds in support of student-athlete scholarships and bursaries. At last year's event, the UNBC community came together to raise more than $218,000, pushing the event's lifetime total well beyond the $1 million mark—all directly supporting Timberwolves student-athletes.
"Legacy Night continues to be one of the most meaningful nights of the year for our program," adds UNBC's Director of Athletics and Recreation, Loralyn Murdoch. "It's an opportunity to bring the community together to celebrate student athletes and invest in their future. With Karina's story leading the way, this year's event promises to be another unforgettable evening."
Tickets for Legacy Night will go on sale later this summer.
