Prince George, B.C. – Fresh off a bronze medal finish in the 2024 Canada West playoffs, the UNBC Timberwolves Men's basketball team is adding one of the top high-school prospects from Eastern Canada.
Earlier today, head coach Todd Jordan announced the commitment of 6'2" combo guard Marcus Wilson (Miramichi, NB) who will join the TWolves for the 2024-25 campaign and beyond.
Wilson, the reigning Grade 12 New Brunswick Athlete of the Year, averaged 25.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 4 steals per game during his recent high school season with coach Neil Smith's Moncton High Purple Knights while averaging 28.5 minutes per-game. Wilson also suited up for Smith's club team, 506 Elite Prep, in the National Senior Circuit and has represented New Brunswick provincially on numerous occasions.
"I really like the fit of the [UNBC] program for me and how the players have a great chemistry together," said Wilson who visited the UNBC campus back in February. "The guys are great. There's a great bond and I'm looking forward to being a part of it."
Wilson shares, "UNBC has a great campus and a great gym, I like the facility. It seems like a great place to get an education and there's lots of help and support for academics." Wilson's planning to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree at UNBC.
Similarly to his two favourite NBA players, LaMelo Ball and Paul George, Wilson does his damage from everywhere on the court. He can hit from deep, get to the mid-range, and likes to drive to the rim and facilitate. A natural shooting guard, he can also play the point when needed.
"We're really excited to have Marcus commit to our team. We think he's got a big upside," adds UNBC Men's Basketball head coach Todd Jordan. "He is a good athlete that can really shoot the ball and has been a high-level scorer with both his prep team at 506 Elite and team New Brunswick in the summer,"
Jordan adds, "It is exciting for us to bring in a prospect of his calibre from the other side of the country and we think he is going to fit very well with our group of guys."
UNBC Athletics is proud to welcome Marcus Wilson to the UNBC Timberwolves family.
